Fixed a few things for The Asylum, notably the "Asylum Home" links in The Adventures of The Insane Space Hunter, which all pointed to a defunct directory on Black-Blade.net. Just an artifact of my days on Outerverse's server.
I also put ISH-O-Vision into Chapter 1, mentioned a couple of new things on the TAOTISH main page, and updated the main Asylum page for the first time in four years. Took off the broken counter on the main page, too.
Oh, yeah, and I used an avatar that Badger made for me for my newspost on the main Asylum page. I think that's all the news that's news.

Nothing to report here, just finally getting around to posting a newspost from two weeks ago that I wrote whilst on vacation and promptly forgot about. :P
Still haven't redesigned the site; I'll get to that when I feel like it, I guess. I still need to edit Kane's vocal color in The Adventures of The Insane Space Hunter from dodgerblue to crimson... which isn't hard, as all I have to do is open up all of the documents and run a find/replace.
Mayhaps I'll just do that now, actually. Considering he's only featured in Chapter 5 anyway. :P

Well, I got the new hard drive up and running, and all the music moved over--as well as my local copies of all the websites I update, and the scratch disc preference of Adobe Photoshop--which took up an amazing nine and a half gigabytes or so. I thought to myself, "Hey, cool, that was, like, a third of my hard drive that's now free." Then, I thought to myself, "let's see, nine gigs out of the terabyte takes up one tenth of... no, wait... one hundredth of the available space. Damn, that's huge."
I dunno, it just seemed odd to me that all the digital music I've assembled, nearly ten gigs (it used to be, like, twelve, but I deleted a lot of the ones I didn't like as much or listen to a while ago to free up space), takes up one hundredth of the blasted thing. :P
Anyhow, that means that I can now get things underway designing the site. Of course, I'm away from a steady internet connection right now (up in Estes Park, Colorado for the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Highland Festival) and this newspost won't even be up until at least Sunday Night, but that's not important. :P I'll worry about that later. Until then, I'm off for a weekend of not wearing pants.

What started out as a quick "state of the union" newspost during some downtime in an IM conversation with Sasuke turned into a three-hour goof-up-what-you've-done-already session when I tried to make a newspost archive. Sure, I was eating and IMing and mucking about while I was doing it, but it shouldn't have been nearly as hard as I made it (especially considering all the layout I've done up until this point might still all go away soon when I redesign the site, which I'm intending to do anyway).
So, anyway, I ordered an external hard drive for my laptop; I've been bumping my head on the ceiling of the thirty-gig internal drive for months, now, and I finall broke down and got a big-ass external one. I mean, I could void my warranty by buying a larger internal drive and installing it myself, or I could hire an officially licensed (and most likely expensive) computer service company to do that for me, or I could simply go and buy a one-terabyte external drive and be done with it. And be able to hook it up to any of the other computers in the house. Plus, instead of fifty-gig or one-hundred-gig or whatever I might be able to find for an internal drive, I can get a terabyte to fill with games and silly songs.
The justification for mentioning this in a newspost is that it's been almost impossible to work in Photoshop without much room on my scratch disk, and thus, I haven't built any sort of navigation for this site because I always pattern out what I want it to look like in Photoshop. So with the new disk, I can do that. And make all this better.
The ironic part of all this is that I've spent three hours screwing up the nested tables I threw together as a quick slap-something-on-the-internet-now kind of site to explain that I'm not going to redesign the slap-something-on-the-internet-now kind of site for real until my new hard drive arrives. At which point I will rework everything, making these three hours effectively wasted time.
Oh, well, at least I now have the directory infrastructure in place for a newspost archive. That's meaningful, right? :P

Hey hey, it's Gimp, A.K.A. The Insane Space Hunter. Got the domain set up, got the subdomains going, told Oh Heck that he had a website now... now all I need to do is build something better-looking as a navigation bar.
I got the old Asylum site files from Outerverse... thank heavens he didn't just scrap it all when I last dropped out of his sight. :P Now it's all hosted here, though some links might be broken. Not really gonna worry about it, though; most everything on there is outdated or silly (case in point: four or five backstories for The Insane Space Hunter that I've thrown out, as well as an archive of newsposts for a site I haven't really done anything for since 2004). The "Asylum" here on SkullDaisy was mostly just going to be a host for The Adventures Of The Insane Space Hunter (from which I intend to excise parts I don't like, such as THAT origin story for ISH), but it's nicer having all of my old crap back. ;)
"SkullDaisy," incidentally, refers to the clan name my buddies (and brothers) and I use when playing video games; it all goes back to Unreal Championship on the XBOX, which allowed you to pick a symbol for your team. After scrolling through explosions, medieval weapons, and angry-loooking faces for the better part of five minutes trying to find one that was "me," I almost dismissed an innocuous skull-looking one until I realized that there were flower petals around it. And Team SkullDaisy was born.
What that means for the site is that we can post stories of our in-game adventures and shenanigans, Halo 3 screenshots, and other silliness. Which I may or may not ever do. :P What I *will* do (and, to some extent, have already done) is give Oh Heck a place to put up the webcomic he's always talked about doing and host The Asylum and the TMC stuff.
I'll be weeding out old duplicate files as I find them--there's an old copy of the TMC chronicles that only goes up to Chapter 4 (and isn't even a finished version of Chapter 4, to boot) on the Asylum site, for instance, and I'll redesign the navigation on both TMC and The Asylum while I'm at it. That's after I build something for SkullDaisy, of course.
And, before anybody says anything, yes, the SkullDaisy design will be pink. I intentionally picked the color when I ripped the SkullDaisy logo from Unreal Championship because it's so delightfully incongruous (it was originally brown in the photo I took of the screen), and I figured I'd make the site match it. I have my own version for my newsposts, of course, and Lurch, for instance, will have a blue one for things he writes. If he ever learns how to write, that is.
Have a nice day! |
